Task 9: Casting

Faye Stockley - Acting as the artist and also the protagonist.
Faye is a 16 year old student from The Rawlett School. She sings professionally and so I thought that she would be a great asset to my music video. Furthermore, Faye also does drama for GCSE and takes part in the yearly school productions so she has had experience within the acting field.
The video below shows Faye singing in a recording studio in Birmingham called 'Sing it' where she recorded her own version of Birdy's Skinny Love.

Mark Dennison - Acting as Faye's boyfriend in the music video.
Mark is a both shy and confident character so i thought he would be perfect for the role of Faye's boyfriend as he can portray a great sensitive side to him. Moreover, Mark also does drama and takes part in the school productions. Most recently acting as the beast from 'Beauty & The Beast'.

Task 8: Final proposal

My music video is going to be in a similar style to Ed Sheeran's 'The A Team' where there is a distinctive narrative throughout. In addition to this, it will also have aspects and scenes of performance running through it such as the video for Sam Smith's 'Lay Me Down'. The video will follow the same speed and be continuous throughout.

Due to the fact that my video will have the target audience of 15-25+ young adults, I am going to keep the video in colour rather than giving it a black and white filter. The reason that I am keeping it in colour is to keep it modern and relatable to that generation. The narrative of the video is going to follow the love story of a young teenage couple who have an argument at the beginning of the video and then it will show the build up throughout the middle and towards the end of the video where they are going to make up; meaning that the video's narrative ends on a positive/happy note.

For the beginning of my music video, I am going to have the very first shot as a close up of Faye's face as she opens her eyes with the first beat of the song. The close up shot means that the artist will be introduced to the audience straight away and they can become familiar with her and know that she is the protagonist in the narrative of the video.

After all of the scenes in the video, there is going to be a fade/dissolve effect which then takes you to the next scene. I am going to do this so that it adds a sense of sophistication to the video and so that it looks like a real music video.

Task 7: Role allocation

Me: Researcher, creator, director, print product designer and film editor.
I had to research a lot of documentaries, games and music videos in the early stages of my coursework in order to decide which one I wanted to do for my product. I looked at artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne, Birdy and Sam Smith. When I was looking on YouTube, I discovered Phoebe Ryan when I found her cover mash-up that she did of R. Kelly's 'Ignition' and Miguel's 'Do You Like Drugs?'. The cover was really good and I liked her voice as it is very similar to Ellie Goulding so I looked at what other songs she has done and some that she has written herself when I found 'Mine'. This song is similar to the ones that are currently in the charts all around the world so therefore I thought that this was the perfect choice for my music video which will have a young target audience. Furthermore, I am also going to be editing and creating the print products for our music videos promotion. To edit them I am going to use a mixture of Photoshop and Microsoft word.

Victoria Elson: Researcher, creator, director, print product designer and film editor.
Victoria is going to edit our recorded footage and edit them so that they can all be joined together to make our music video. I will also be taking part in the editing of our music video and vise-versa as Victoria will also be taking part with the editing and creating of the print products (digipak, magazine advert and CD cover).

Task 7: Role allocation (Production Schedule)

Here is the production schedule with all of the dates on it of when I am going to be filming my music video. It also contains the information telling you where i am filming on that day.

Task 5: Pitch

For the music video that Victoria and I are making, we had to carry out lots of background research into other music videos. The ones that we looked at were 'Ed Sheeran - The A Team', 'Birdy - Skinny Love' and 'Jess Glynne - Take Me Home'. We came to the decision of having Phoebe Ryan - Mine as our track for the music video. Following this, further research had to be carried out into the different types of music videos including; Abstract, Performance and Narrative. For the research into these categories, i looked at 'Route 94 ft. Jess Glynne - My Love' for the abstract video. 'Ella Eyre - Comeback' for the Narrative video and 'Jess Glynne ft. Clean Bandit - Real Love' for the Performance based video. After taking all 3 of these categories into consideration, we thought it would be a good idea to do a video which is both performance and narrative based.

For the narrative aspect of the video, we spent a while talking and thinking about a storyline that we could provide which will both attract and entertain an audience. We decided that it would follow the break up and reconciliation of a young teenage couple, acted out by Faye Stockley and Mark Dennison. In addition to this, there will also be parts of the video where in which Faye will perform 'Mine' in the recording studio at Landau Forte Academy Tamworth Sixth Form.

Before we can do any of this, we will need to email Sony's record label to be able to ask for permission.

Task 4: Artist research (Research into the artists background)

Phoebe Ryan:

Phoebe Ryan is an American singer whom I found via YouTube when she released her cover mash-up of R.Kelly's - 'Ignition' combined with Miguel's - 'Do you like drugs?' on 21st January 2015. Her R.Kelly mash-up cover was released on SoundCloud and collected 349,000 plays to date. Her voice caught my attention as it is very similar to Ellie Goulding's, she has a naturally good voice rather than artists who have to edit their songs and use a lot of auto-tuning.Furthermore, her music is the same style as Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Jess Glynne which are all current artists in the charts and so my music video would sell to the target audience.

Since then Phoebe released a single called 'Mine', the song which I am going to be using in my music video for my coursework, on 18th February 2015 which reached 927,878 hits on YouTube. From creating and posting this single on YouTube, the singer has received support from Taylor Swift, a worldwide phenomenon, who posted on Instagram a list of new artists, that she wrote herself, that she would recommend her fans and others should listen to. 'Mine' was one of the tracks mentioned. This would have been a great advantage for Phoebe to boost her profile in order for her music to be heard worldwide.

Below is Phoebe's video for 'Mine'...

Phoebe also released another music video onto YouTube on 15th July 2015 which is called 'Dead' (video shown below). For my music video, the track was a decision between both 'Mine' and 'Dead' however, I have chosen 'Mine' as it is very similar to the tracks that are in the present charts and what the young audience are more likely to download.

Task 4: Audience research (Researching Target Audience)

For my A2 media production, the most important aspect is my target audience and ensuring that it is suitable for a specific age range. By researching Phoebe Ryan's video for 'Mine' i discovered that the genre of the song is pop, this is the same as the other videos that I have looked at. The other videos that i have researched that mine is going to be similar to such is Ed Sheeran - The A Team and Birdy - Skinny Love and my target audience will be the same as the one for 'A Team' around the ages 15-20, however i have came up with a more specific target audience. My ideal target audience would be as follows:

Name: Sophie
Age: 17
Car: New Ford KA
Phone: iphone
Shops: River Island, New Look, JD & Outfit
Artists: Ed Sheeran, Birdy & Sam Smith
Enjoys: Spending time with family & friends
Magazine: OK! & New magazine
TV shows: Celebrity Juice, X-factor, Big Brother
Social media: Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat

I think that the majority of my audience is going to be passive as they are most likely to be ones to use social media. When they are on Twitter, for example, there will be pop ups or things that are trending world wide. If my music video appeared on one of these then they would be more likely to click on it and watch it due to them being intrigued.
